One of the wonderful things about sponsoring a child at Dr Graham's Homes is that it's a personal involvement. With a Homes sponsorship, you aren't just paying an invoice. You're entering into a relationship.
That's one of the things that appealed to James, a DGHUK supporter who started sponsoring Agnes some time ago. Agnes was a young girl from Kolkata whose mother had struggled to support her after her father left.
James and his family didn't just pay her school fees; they stayed in touch with Agnes, wrote and received letters from her, and discovered more about how she was getting on at the school.
"We send her books... and almost as soon as she gets the books we get a letter back saying yes, thank you very much," James explained.
At DGHUK, we encourage this kind of connection. Whether it’s sending a storybook, writing a birthday card, or receiving a school report about a child's progress, these small interactions remind the children that someone on the other side of the world cares about their future.
As James notes, seeing the handwritten letters from Agnes brings home the reality of the difference he is making. "It's that whole thing of giving back," he explains.
Safeguarding first
We make it easy and safe to stay in touch. All letters and parcels are handled by our UK Sponsorship Secretaries to ensure safeguarding for both you and the child. You send it to us; we make sure it gets to the Himalayas!
